Obituary for David Paul Aday

David Paul Aday
David Paul Aday, 88, of Bonner Springs, KS, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015. Celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October, 9, at Judson Baptist Church, 8300 State Avenue, KC, KS followed by burial at Bonner Springs Cemetery. His family will receive friends at his visitation from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, October 8, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak Street, Bonner Springs, KS. Memorial contributions to Judson Baptist Church may be sent to the funeral home.
David was born on June 14, 1927, in Winganon, (near Chelsea) Oklahoma. David and his wife, Virginia, celebrated 68 years of marriage before her death in 2012. They worked side by side for over 50 years in the bakery/restaurant business in Wellington, Russell, Osborne, and Council Grove, Kansas. They made a full line of bakery products including wedding cakes and homemade candies. After their retirement, they moved to Bonner Springs to be near their family and David began his second career welcoming area customers to the local Wal-Mart in Bonner Springs for the last 14 years. He loved all the friends he got to make while keeping his place at the door and continued right up to his recent health battle with cancer.
David, or Dave, as he was known to most, lived a long full life that included many community and church activities. He coached Babe Ruth youth baseball teams for many years, taking more than one team on to state championships and Babe Ruth World Series competition. He recently received his 60 year pin in the Masonic Lodge, having served the local and state lodges for many years, and holding the title of Grand Lecturer Emeritus in the Kansas State Lodge. He loved bird hunting and trained many hunting dogs that competed in field trial competitions. He loved to play pool with his kids and grandkids as well as with the Bonner Senior Center pool gang. He enjoyed playing dominos, harmonica, and building and maintaining purple martin houses. He loved to tell a good story and always had a funny take on almost everything from someone’s name to a clever turn of words. In recent years, his favorite stories were the miracle stories of his numerous recoveries that gave him a testimony to share His Lord and Savior's loving grace. He enjoyed his Sunday school class and his many friends at Judson Baptist Church for the last 18 years.
Dave was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia, and his grandson, Ryan Aday. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Ferrell and her husband, Cliff, of Bonner Springs, KS; his son, David Aday, Jr. and his wife, Sherry of Lanexa, VA, 3 grandchildren, Clifford Ferrell and his wife, Patrice; Tonya Wiley and her husband, Doug, all of Bonner Springs, KS; and Derek Aday and his wife, Erica of Cary, NC and 15 great grandchildren, as well as 5 brothers and a host of friends.
