Obituary for Eleanor Ambrose Funnell

Eleanor Ambrose Funnell, age 98, of Basehor, Kansas passed away on Friday July 22, 2016 at her home. Funeral Mass Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27th at the Holy Angels Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kansas City, KS. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Tuesday, July 26th from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. both at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Holy Angels Catholic Parish Champaign to build the new Perpetual Adoration Chapel.
Eleanor was born on December 21, 1917 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to William and Stella Ambrose and grew up in Wilkes-Barre. After graduating High School she joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving 2 years in the Air Corps as a Corporal in Romulus, MI. Eleanor met her husband JD Funnell while they were both stationed in Romulus. They married November 25, 1944 in Romulus, MI. and after the birth of their daughter Janet, the family moved to Kansas City. Eleanor was a lifelong Catholic; spending 60 years as a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kansas City, KS., and more recently as a parishioner of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor, KS. She spent her past time volunteering and participating in various organizations, including Sacred Heart Church Circle. Eleanor enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with her husband JD. She also spent time playing Bunco, and visiting with family and friends. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren with whom she had a very special connection.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters; Irene Calder, Norie Buford, Linda Cooper, Jean Kish and Helen Ambrose.
Survivors include her daughter Janet Green and husband John of the home, Brother Bill Ambrose and wife Helen of Kansas City, KS., grandchildren; David Green and wife Jackie of Kansas City, KS., Lora Jane Green-Meade and husband Brian, of Basehor, KS., great-grandchildren; Jordan Green of Blue Springs, MO., Paige Green of Leavenworth, KS., Joseph Schmaltz, of Basehor, KS., Katie, Morgan and Meghan Schmaltz, of Basehor, KS., Jordan Meade of Gallipolis, OH., Jonathon Meade of Basehor, KS., and great-great granddaughter Tanna Hegwald of Leavenworth, KS., as well as many family and friends.
