Obituary for Brad Zumbrunn

Alden-Harrington Funeral Home
Bradley “Brad” Alan Zumbrunn, 52, was born on June 10th, 1964 in Kansas City, KS and passed away suddenly on December 12th, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Melody Zumbrunn, their two sons, Gage and Max who were his proudest accomplishments, his parents, Jo and Clayton Zumbrunn, and sister, Patti Ward and husband Brent, all of Bonner Springs, KS. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, MaryAnn Bjorgaard, sister-in-law, Michelle Meyer, brother-in-law, Craig Bjorgaard, cousins, nieces, a nephew, many great friends, and his dog, Milo, who all loved him profoundly. Brad graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1982. He married Melody on October 5th, 1985, who he loved and adored. Over the years, he worked for Stephen Oil Company, Vickers Trucking, PepsiCo, Ty Inc., and co-owner of Residential Design LLC.
No words can describe Brad as he was truly larger than life. Brad is remembered for seeing the good in everyone and had acceptance and kindness to everyone he met. He had a great sense of humor that was relentless. He was the life of the party and lived life to the fullest every day. If you knew Brad, you loved him.
Brad was a self-taught chef and most weekends could be found in his kitchen whipping up restaurant-quality cuisine to entertain family and friends. His greatest love was spending time with Gage, Max and Melody and any opportunity for a "splash or bump" at "whiskey 30 at the ridge" or within the "bermuda triangle" with all his buddies and dad. He relished his hunting and fishing trips with his buddies, never passed up an opportunity for a good game of ping pong and training his beloved dog Milo.
Overall, Brad just had a resounding love for life. Brad touched the lives of so many and our lives were simply better with him in it. He will be greatly missed. To quote from a favorite movie of Brad’s, “Some birds aren’t meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they’re gone.”
A service will be held at Elm Grove Baptist Church in Bonner Springs, KS at 2:00 PM on December 23rd, 2016 directly followed by a celebration of Brad’s life at Lake of the Forest Clubhouse in Bonner Springs, KS at 3:30 PM. If so desired, memorials may be made to Melody Zumbrunn to support Gage and Max’s educations, and mailed to Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.
