Herbert Leroy "Herb"  Lee
Herbert “Herb” Leroy Lee, 83, of the Loring Valley area of Bonner Springs, KS died Fri., May 5, 2017 at the Bonner Springs Nursing and Rehab Center. Visitation 6 to 8 pm, Thurs., May 11, and Funeral 10 am, Fri., May 12, both at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS. Burial to follow in Bonner Springs Cemetery. Herb was born on July 22, 1933 son of Cecil and Thelma (Lee) Lee in Kansas City, KS. He grew up on the family vegetable farm in the Loring Valley near Bonner Springs. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1951 and also graduated Kansas State College with a degree in Agricultural Journalism and Horticulture in 1955. During college, he was the editor of the college Agriculture Magazine, president of the Agricultural Journalism Club. He was a Farmhouse Social Fraternity member. He was also the Farm Editor for the Topeka Daily Capitol newspaper and an Agricultural Reporter for the Kansas City Star for a while after college. He was a commercial vegetable grower who owned and operated his farm in the Loring Valley area for 55 years. He sold produce at The City Market in Kansas City, MO., the old State Ave. farmers market in Kansas City, KS and at roadside market locations and to chain store warehouses. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Infantry Army Reserve. Herb married Dorothy Jo Bushnell on November 4, 1956 and to this union three children were born; Mark, David and Jolinda. The family worked together growing vegetables on their 30 acre farm. Herb served as President of the Kansas Vegetable Growers Association and was Vice President of the Kansas Horticultural Society for a few years. He sold produce on the center stalls at the City Market in Kansas City, MO all of his life. Later in life he met and married Jane Hurley Lee. As a hobby, he studied and researched dreams for 35 years, including participating in Midwest expos and fairs as a dream interpreter for others. He is a Past President of the Psychical Research Society of Kansas City. In recent years his continual quest for truth in God and desire for Jesus Christ, led him to the World Revival Church in Kansas City, MO. where he experienced the power and presence of God and gifts of healing, including receiving many prayers during services and receiving personal prayers at the House of Hope and Healing. He learned even more as he audited several classes at the World Revival School of Ministry.
Herb is survived by his sons; Mark (Kim) Lee, and David Lee of Bonner Springs, KS., daughter; Jolinda (Clinton) Allerdings of Plevna, MT., two granddaughters; Brandi and Nicole Allerdings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Thelma Lee, and his second wife Jane Lee.
