Donald D. "Slim"  Wilson
Donald D. Wilson “Slim”, age 76, a proud longtime resident of Basehor, Kansas passed away on Thursday, Aug. 10th, 2017 while surrounded by his loving family, at his home. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 11am to 1pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 1pm, both Monday Aug. 14th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with burial to follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Basehor, KS. Memorial Contributions can be made to Basehor Pride.
Don was born on Sept. 7, 1940 in Rural Camden County, MO. and was the seventh of nine children born to Baker & Mary (Henson) Wilson. In 1960, Don moved to this area to live with his sister and look for work. Shortly thereafter he met and fell in love with Doris Langford and they were married on Jan. 1, 1961 in Kansas City, KS. About that same time he started his career in the Dairy Business, working for Meyer Dairy in Basehor, where he worked until they closed. He then went to work at Zarda Dairy and later Roberts Dairy, retiring in 2003. He was also was very active for many years with the Fairmont Township Fire Department, the City of Basehor, and was the Animal Control Officer for Basehor (36 years) and Tonganoxie (34 years) and had also been a part-time Patrolman for the Basehor Police Department. Don was known as “Slim” by everyone, and their dogs!
He was preceded in death by his parents, and six siblings; Leman, Baker Jr., and Doyle Wilson, Violet Osborn, Bonnie Starnes and Emma Paul.
Survivors include his loving wife, Doris Wilson of the home. Four children; Marcie Thompson and husband Jerry, Donald Dale Wilson, II and wife Jennifer, all of Tonganoxie, KS., Mary Wilson of the home, and Donna Salb and husband Jerry of Basehor, KS., two brothers; Vernon Wilson and Lonnie Dean Wilson (Peggy) all of Richland, MO. 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, extended family and a community of friends.
