Obituary for Lois Laverne Herdman (Eagan)

Lois Laverne Herdman (Eagan)
Lois L. (Eagan) Herdman, 91, of Basehor, KS died September 18th at Country Place Senior Living in Basehor, KS. Lois had a great sense of humor and a zest for life. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, and the Funeral will be at 11 am, both on Fri., Sept. 22, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS. Burial will follow in the Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens Cemetery in Shawnee, KS. Lois was born in Amarillo, TX on March 25, 1926 and raised in a large family with 11 siblings in Borger, TX. She enjoyed always having someone to play with and she was taught by her parents to work hard and to respect others. She married the love of her life, Jess Herdman, of Piper, KS on March 11, 1946 in Vernon, TX. She followed Jess to Kansas. She always felt so lucky to be a member of another large family, the Herdmans. Jess and Lois were blessed with twins, Kathy and Jess Lynn. She always stated that her twins were the “best thing” that happened to her after finding and marrying Jess. Lois had a variety of jobs during her life: telephone operator, bomb loader (Pampa Air Force Base), assisting at a hair salon, Sunflower Ammunition Plant, and as a homemaker and mother. In Lois’ later years she was best known for her love of being outside. She and Jess had large vegetable gardens and flower gardens with varieties of lilies and roses. It was common to see Lois out push mowing her Basehor yard each week, till she was well into her 80’s. Lois had a huge heart for animals. She was partial to dogs, especially poodles, but was known to feed and adopt many stray cats and she loved feeding and caring for the wildbirds.
Lois was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Jess (2001) and her son, Jess Lynn (2011). She is survived by her daughter, Kathy D. Little, Lomita, CA, a sister, Janet Babb, Pampa, TX, brother –in-law, Orval Herdman, Liberty, MO, six grandchildren: Eric Herdman, Daniel Herdman, Christina (Herdman) Anderson, Shawnee Donahue Herdman, Frank Mumolo and Joseph Mumolo along with 4 great grandchildren. As well as many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors that will miss her greatly.
In lieu of flowers the family requests honoring Lois with memorials to the Bonner Animal Rescue in care of the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home 214 Oak St. Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
