Obituary for Hiram Christian "Chris" Zimmerly

Hiram Christian "Chris"  Zimmerly
Hiram Christian “Chris” Zimmerly, age 76, of Basehor, KS., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 after a brief illness. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6 to 8pm Thursday, Oct. 12th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will be 10am Friday at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Funeral Service will be Noon, Friday, Oct. 13, at the Elm Grove Baptist Church in Bonner Springs.
Chris was born on July 6, 1941 in Massillon, Ohio. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1960 to 1964. He married Patricia McClellan on Jan. 11th, 1964 in Kansas City, KS., and they have lived in Basehor for 31 years. Chris retired after 32 years as a Central Office Installer for Western Electric/AT&T. He and Pat had been members of the former Oakland Park Baptist Church in Kansas City, KS., and were presently attending Elm Grove Baptist Church. Chris loved his KC Royals, FOX News and traveling, for the past 14 years he and Pat enjoyed their winter home in Bradenton, FL. Chris could build or fix anything, and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, and one grandson Christian Sexton.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Pat Zimmerly of the home, their three children; Mark Zimmerly of the home, Kevin Zimmerly and wife Karen of Bonner Springs and Michelle Sexton and husband Scott of Basehor. Six grandchildren; Kayla, Mindi, Logan, Kameron, Jessica and Conner. Five siblings; Lillian, Mary, Ronald, Diane and Johnny, as well as many extended family and friends.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the Leukemia Society or KC Hospice House.
