James H. Downing passed away Nov. 2nd, 2017 surrounded by family. Jim was born Dec. 28, 1938 in Kansas City, KS to Robert and Laura Downing. In September of 1960 he married the love of his life, Carol J. Oakes. Jim retired from the USPS. "Big Jim" is survived by his wife Carol of the home, two sons; James & wife Suzette and Bill & wife Tiffany, grandchildren; Lauren & husband Cary, Megan, J.P., Ryan and Makai. One brother Bill along with many nephews and nieces. A celebration of life will be held at the Edwardsville United Methodist Church, Saturday, Nov. 18th at 4pm. A Graveside Service will be held at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery on Monday, Nov 20th at 11am.
