Obituary for Marvin Dale Pollock

Marvin Dale Pollock, age 79, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away, on his birthday, Feb. 6th, 2018. Visitation will be 10-11am, followed by the Funeral Service at 11am, both Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kansas City, KS.

Marvin Dale Pollock was born on Feb, 6th, 1939 in Kansas City, Kansas and was the eldest of two children born to Amos & Opal (Kerns) Pollock. He grew up in Edwardsville and graduated from the Bonner Springs High School in the class of 1957. Marvin went on to further his education at the University of Kansas, pursuing an Engineering Degree. He started his career in the National Elevator Industry, Local #12 in October 1960 and retired in July of 1994. On April 20th, 1962 he married his “Sweetheart”, Becky Sue Reed. Marvin had a thirst for knowledge, taking gun smithing and lock smithing courses in his 70's. He was always thinking, and liked to play chess with his grand children, and tinkering with various projects. He had a love for woodworking, leading to many projects around the house. He designed and built his first house with his father at the age of 27. Marvin was known for his sense of humor, jokes and limericks. His work buddies would excitedly look forward to his weekly Friday limericks. He enjoyed acting and had performed at the Theater in the Park. His favorite actor was John Wayne. He enjoyed collecting a large library of Mr. Wayne's movies. Marvin also had a love for the outdoors. He had visited many of the national monuments and state parks, among them; Yellowstone and Old Faithful, Yosemite National Park, Pikes Peak, Royal Gorge, the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert, the giant redwoods, the Ozarks, and Mark Twain State Park. He also enjoyed sailing his small sailboat and even took flying lessons.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Martha Jane Young, and one daughter, Melanie Dawn Pollock.

Survivors include; his wife Becky Sue Pollock of the home. Three children; Collette Leugers (Ron), Christopher Pollock (Mary Stiltner), Heather Pollock. Twelve grandchildren: Samantha Arterburn Norris, Jessica Arterburn, Jason Arterburn, Addy Leugers and David Leugers (Collette); Joshua Austin, Dawn-Marie Austin, Jared Austin, and Sarah Austin (Melanie); Airk Stiltner (Christopher); Matthew Bennett and Cody Bennett (Heather). Two great-grandchildren: Alexandra Bussanmas (Jessica Arterburn), and Howard Dale Burrows (Dawn-Marie Austin).
