Eugene Owen Reynolds, Jr., age 86, of Bonner Springs, Kansas passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 9:30am to 11:00am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00am, both Friday, May 19 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Burial in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Vaughn-Trent Community Services or the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School.
Gene was the oldest son of E.O. and Nadine Reynolds, and was born at their home in Wilder, KS on April 14, 1931. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bonner Springs in 1931, and ever since, has been a loyal member and usher for the church. Gene attended through the sixth grade at Wilder School, and completed grade school at McDaniel School in Bonner Springs. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in the class of 1949. He and Glenna Lea Douglas were married on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1952. Gene is a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. Before his honorable discharge in June of 1954, he was stationed at Camp Roberts and Camp Stoneman in California. Gene and Glenna came back to Bonner Springs and Gene’s first employment was with Del Hininger Chevrolet, which later became Ed Roberts Chevrolet. He had also been a partner with them in the Roberts-Reynolds Chevrolet Oldsmobile dealership in Richmond, MO. and came back to work again with the Roberts Family Chevrolet dealership in Bonner Springs. Gene also got busy serving the City of Bonner Springs. He was elected Mayor serving for four years, before serving as a councilman for two years. He was a member of the Sunflower Hills Golf Advisory Board for over 36 years. Gene loved to play golf, and had scored a hole-in-one, twice over the years, once at Sunflower Hills on #16, the other at the Kansas State Golf Tournament, in Wichita. Gene was a Charter member in many of the City Clubs – The Bonner Booster Club, Tri County Rod and Gun Club, Bonner Springs Lions Club, Bonner Springs Jaycee’s, to name a few. In 2006, Gene was inducted into the Bonner Springs High School Hall of Fame as an Initial Member.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include; his wife Glenna Reynolds of the home, two brothers; Ray and wife Joyce of Shawnee, KS., Mike and wife Barbara of Overland Park, KS. as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
