Elizabeth “Liz” Elsie (Bishop) Wiley, age 84, of Basehor, Kansas went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 28, 2017. Funeral Mass Service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3rd at the Holy Angels Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kansas City, KS. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2nd at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Adoration Chapel. Holy Angels Catholic Church, 15408 Leavenworth Rd., Basehor, KS. 66007.

Liz was born on May 24, 1933 in Windsor, Vermont to her parents Edward Lawrence Bishop Sr. and Elsie Lydia Anderson Bishop. She married Donald Edward Wiley, Sr. on November 24, 1956. Liz was a 1951 Windsor High School graduate, a 1955 graduate of Castleton State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education and in 1978 she graduated from Emporia State University with a Master of Science degree with emphasis on Reading. She retired in 1995 after 25 years of teaching at Basehor Elementary, and she had also taught at Rutland and Windsor, Vermont, Holliman Air Force Base, New Mexico and Christ the King School in Okinawa, Ryuku Islands, Japan for a total of 37 years.

Liz was a longtime member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church, a founding and active member of the Alpha Delta Kappa – Teachers Sorority, and an active member of the Basehor Merry Matrons, ladies club. She had a passion for reading and a thirst of knowledge her entire life, which led her to becoming a teacher where she could share this with her students. Liz enjoyed crocheting, traveling, camping & boating, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don Wiley in 2010, her parents, and siblings; Edward Bishop, Cynthia LaClair and a brother-in-law Gordon Nelson. Survivors include her children: Donald Wiley Jr. (Susan) of Mason City, Iowa, Annette Landauer (Barry) of Merriam, KS., Allison Markham of Basehor, KS., Douglas Wiley (Tonya) of Bonner Springs, KS., Daniel Wiley (Missy) of Lansing, KS., Grandchildren: Rachel and Ryan Landauer, Jaime Carter, Jennifer Hight (Bill), Megan and Melissa Markham, Abigail, Loran (Shikara), Emily, Anna, Levi and Lydia Wiley, Haylie Rentschler and Zack Jones, Great Grandchildren: Zackary Carter (Heidi), Hannah, Matthew, Josie, Bruce, Jaelyn and Eli Hight, Amberlynn Rentschler and Jayson Markham and one great-great granddaughter on the way. Siblings and spouses: Maggie and Fred Rising of Windsor, VT, Shirley Nelson of Alamogordo, NM, Brenda and David Reed of Charlestown NH, David and Karen LaClair of Penacook NH. Other family: Lela Wiley of Basehor, KS, Sandy Bishop of Redmond, WA., Kathryn and Dick Webb, Elk Grove,CA, Clifford Wiley, Rosburg,WA.
