Obituary for Howard F. Miller

Howard F.  Miller
Howard F. Miller, age 93, of Kansas City, KS., passed away peacefully at home on September 18, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be 9-11am Saturday, Funeral Service to begin at 11am both Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 at the Maywood Community Church, 11201 Parallel Pkwy, Kansas City, KS. Howard will then be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at the Bonner Springs Cemetery.
Howard was born on November 14, 1923, and lived in Kansas City, KS his entire life. He graduated from Basehor High School and married Virginia Haas on June 19, 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and worked as a carpenter, building all three of his own homes and many homes for others. He also enjoyed building smaller projects, especially custom barn toy boxes for his great grandchildren. Howard was the original Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #304 that was started at Maywood Community Church. His biggest passion was restoring Diamond T trucks, taking great pride in his parade quality collection. Prior to Virginia’s passing, they enjoyed dancing in Lawrence. Howard was a long time member of Maywood Community Church.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Virginia, son William Alan Miller, grandson Scott Alan Thomas, and great grandson William Howard Cunningham. Howard is survived by his children, Joyce (Jerry) Cunningham and Kenny (Sharon) Miller, grandchildren Jennifer (Troy) Schlicht, Amy (Justin) Higdon, Chris (Sara) Cunningham and Andrea (Mike) Strick. Howard is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Jake Higdon, Mackenzie, Carson and Elizabeth Cunningham, Milam, Malachi and Madilynn Strick.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Ronald McDonald House at Children’s Mercy Hospital, CHD Families at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Maywood Ladies Council or the Wyandotte Cancer Action.
